As part of our 50th anniversary celebrations the NPCA launched the Simply Tree-mendous Challenge at April 30, 2009. The goal of the ‘challenge’ is to have residents, groups, service clubs and businesses plant 50,000 native trees/shrubs across the watershed over a 2 year period.
The ‘Simply Tree-mendous Challenge’ is a friendly competition between our watershed municipalities, with the focus on incorporating native species especially in urban environments. The program officially begins as of May 1, 2009 and will continue until April 30, 2011. The Conservation Authority will promote the competition and provide updates.

About the NPCA |
Established in 1959, the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority serves approximately 500,000 people and covers an area of 2,424 square kilometres encompassing the entire Niagara Region, 21% of the City of Hamilton and 25% of Haldimand County. The driving force behind the Conservation Authority movement was its grassroots land stewardship focus and involvement with water programs. Today, this vital commitment continues,as we strive to address the impact on the watershed from current human activities and the effects of urban growth and rural activities. Our programs focus on environmental protection and preservation and watershed management activities. These include planning, regulations, water quality monitoring and improvement through stewardship and restoration, community outreach, and conservation through land acquisition and public ownership.

Water Management |
From the majestic Escarpment to the Great Lakes...... Niagara's abundance of water resources contributes to the economic prosperity of business and personal well being of all residents and visitors. Spectacular waterfalls, waterside parks and walking trails, fishing, sandy beaches and picnic areas are just a few gems waiting for you to discover and enjoy! The overriding mandate of the Water Management Department is two fold:
i) To promote, protect and enhance the watersheds valley lands, watercourses, wetlands and shorelines by carrying out a number of programs as well as, enforcing Regulations pursuant to the Conservation Authorities Act, aimed at protecting our resources for future generations.
ii) Safeguarding the public from injury/loss of life and property damage from flood events by undertaking both proactive monitoring and capital works as well as, implementing development controls in areas of risk.
The Water Management Department delivers its programs in cooperation with our local and Regional municipalities, as well as, local nature clubs, volunteers and NGO’s.
