Lake Erie Shoreline Management Plan
The Lake Erie Shoreline Management plan was commissioned by the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority in 1992 and considered the shoreline from the western limit of the watershed in Haldimand County to the Niagara River at Fort Erie. That study followed the Guidelines For Developing Great Lakes Shoreline Plans published by the Ministry of Natural Resources in 1987. Elements of those guidelines were superseded by the Natural Hazards Policy of the Provincial Policy Statement of the Planning Act (2005). The Fort Erie Watershed Plan (Philips Engineering Limited et al, 2008) included an update to the majority of the shoreline within the Town of Fort Erie, and considered these new policies and guidelines.
The NPCA commissioned an update to the remainder of the shoreline and the Lake Erie Shoreline Management Plan Update, which integrates the mapping from the Fort Erie Watershed Plan, was published in 2010. This update serves as the guideline used by the NPCA when processing applications made pursuant to Ontario Regulation 155/06 (Development, Interference with Wetlands and Alterations to Shorelines and Watercourses).
